01

Identify the Product & Export Requirements

Determine the product category, HS code, destination country, end use, and applicable export regulations or restrictions.

02

Obtain IEC (Import Export Code)

Ensure the exporter has a valid IEC issued by DGFT, which is generally required for commercial exports from India.

03

Check Product-Specific Approvals

Identify and obtain applicable certifications, registrations, permits, or NOCs such as FSSAI, APEDA, CDSCO, phytosanitary certification, organic certification, BIS, or other product-specific approvals.

Verify Destination-Country Requirements

Check the importing country's requirements for product registration, labeling, packaging, testing, certificates, shelf life, ingredients, and import permits.

Prepare commercial terms covering product details, quantity, price, currency, Incoterms, payment terms, and shipment details.

06

Prepare the Commercial Invoice

Issue the final invoice with exporter and importer details, product description, HS code, quantity, unit price, total value, country of origin, and applicable shipping terms.

07

Prepare the Packing List

Provide package-wise details including number of cartons, product quantity, net and gross weight, dimensions, and marks and numbers.

08

Obtain Certificate of Origin

Obtain a Certificate of Origin where required to establish the country of origin and, where applicable, claim preferential tariff treatment.

09

Arrange Product-Specific Certificates

Depending on the product and destination, arrange documents such as Health Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate, Certificate of Analysis (COA), Organic Certificate, Free Sale Certificate, or other required certificates.

10

Prepare Shipping Documents

Coordinate with the freight forwarder or carrier for the Bill of Lading (B/L) for sea shipments or Air Waybill (AWB) for air shipments.

11

File Export Declaration / Shipping Bill

File the applicable export declaration and Shipping Bill through Indian Customs, generally through the customs electronic system, with accurate product, value, and shipment details.

Customs Verification & Clearance

Customs may verify documents, inspect the shipment, or conduct other checks before granting export clearance.

13

Complete Shipment & Obtain Transport Documents

Once cleared, the goods are shipped and the carrier issues the final transport document, such as the B/L or AWB.

Submit Documents to Buyer / Bank

Share the required export document set with the overseas buyer, bank, insurer, or other parties according to the agreed payment and delivery terms.
